Case Study: Web-Based Newsletter Generator

One of Cisco's business units found itself in the position of creating its business unit's electronic newsletter in a manner that could only be called "primitive," relative to the group's high tech business.

The cumbersome task included receiving information submitted from a variety of sources, sorting it, and assembling the material into another format. The content was then submitted for approval, corrected, assembled into newsletter format, and distributed via email. This process was the next best thing to doing it all by hand.

We effectively stopped and restarted the presses by stepping in and building a Web-based database that automated the entire process. The newsletter generator that we created allows people in the field to enter information into an online form. The articles are sorted, prioritized, formatted, archived, and converted for posting on the Web.
